On the night of 16th July 2021, Friday, at around 8pm UK time, news broke that the Norway Football Federation had posted the registered transfer of Vilde Bøe Risa to Manchester United Women.
Bøe Risa’s name has been linked to the club since around January. However, due to Covid restrictions in Norway and the UK, it has made the deal difficult to complete at that time.
And now, the news that broke on Friday has confirmed her move which now awaits an official announcement from the club.
This is a fantastic signing for the women team, one that I have discussed in previous articles.
She is a deep lying midfielder who has also got a lot of creative talents. At her previous clubs, she has played as the number 8 in the midfield. Her stats have been high for chances created and expected assists as she has a fantastic ability to tread through balls. She also has a good goal scoring record — she scored a memorable goal was vs Manchester City in the Champions League.
Vilde is a lifelong United fan so that goal would have been special to her also. It has been alleged that she has been waiting for this move since the inception of Manchester United Women’s team. In 2019 it was rumored that Bøe Risa rejected a move to Lyon, one of the biggest names in the women’s game.
In my opinion this signing makes Manchester United’s midfield one of the strongest in the Women’s Super League .
The central midfielders lining up next season will most probably be :
Videl Boa Risa
From this list the new manager can pick two strong midfielders. So I believe it is going to be an exciting competition between all these players to see who gets into the new manager’s starting 11. And expect to see a lot of rotation throughout the year to manage the load in all the competitions we will compete in.
This move being announced and confirmed by Manchester United Women will hopefully provide fans with the much needed boost and displays that we will still be competing at the top of Women’s Super League. With a new manager announcement soon and 7 weeks left in the window, next season will be difficult with the loss of Casey and talented players. However, it may not be as bad as first suggested.
