Manchester United scored a second half goal to rescue an undeserved point after a 1-1 draw with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. Following 16 days without a league game, expectations were high as Ralph Rangnick would have sufficient time to improve the performances of the team. Those expectations quickly turned to nightmares as Allan Saint-Maximin scored an early goal to give the hosts the lead. Edinson Cavani equalized in the second half but it were the Toons that looked more likely to score. Manchester United will play Burnley next at Old Trafford.
1- David De Gea: Sensational again. Made a couple of great saves to deny Newcastle. 7
2- Diogo Dalot: Decent offensively but struggled with ASM’s trickery. 5
3- Raphael Varane: It all goes downhill from here and it starts with Varane. Awful mistake for their opener and very shaky on the ball. 2
4- Harry Maguire: Allowed ASM to turn too easily for their opener. Not good. 3
5- Alex Telles: Not sure why Luke Shaw still has not regained his starting position but Telles is not making a convincing case either. 4
6- Fred: His streak of good performances comes to an end with a really poor one. Gave the ball away frequently and hooked at HT. 3
7- Scott Mctominay: Combative as always but not good in possession. 5
8- Marcus Rashford: So, so poor from him again. Looks lost in possession and just makes pointless runs in behind. 2
9- Bruno Fernandes: One of the worst performances of the season from him. Lost the ball more often than not and attempted crazy long balls all game. 1
10- Mason Greenwood: Bizarrely subbed off at half-time. 4
11- Cristiano Ronaldo: No service. 3
1- Edinson Cavani: Scored a goal and missed two good chances. 6
2- Jadon Sancho: Really poor from him today. 2
3- Nemanja Matic: Substituted late on.
