Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects several youth players to depart on loan before the conclusion of the transfer window this month. The Norwegian coach is keen for several academy stars to get regular game time at the senior level to boost their development.
Speaking to MUTV in July, Solskjaer confirmed United’s youth prospects were likely to play a key part in a busy pre-season campaign for the Reds. “They’ll [the youngsters] get a taste of some football. Then roundabouts early August, some will go on loan.” Solskjaer said. “We’ve already lined up a few [loan deals] and some of them are still in discussions between us and the players about where is the best place to go.”
Teden Mengi could potentially return to Derby County after a successful 6-month loan spell last season. During that period, he gained valuable Championship experience and crucially helped Rooney’s Rams narrowly avoid relegation to League One. Reports suggest Rooney is keen for the Manchester-born defender to return to Pride Park despite The Rams facing a transfer embargo meaning any potential loan deal would be a maximum of 6 months long.
Reports from reputable sources claim that Norwich City is keen to acquire Brandon Williams’ services on loan ahead of their upcoming Premier League return. The young fullback is eager for game time which may mean a move elsewhere despite fellow left-back Alex Telles being sidelined with an injury.
Facundo Pellestri, who netted during his unofficial United debut last month, has secured a move to a top-division Spanish club. Alaves confirmed they had reached an agreement with United to take Pellestri on a season-long loan. The sought-after South American made 12 loan appearances for Alaves last season. Information relayed by Fabrizio Romano confirms that the Babazorros did not include a buy option in the deal. “There’s been loads of interest and for his best interests as well, I think a loan will be what we look for,” Solskjaer said following Pellestri’s impressive debut against Derby County.
Ethan Laird has been reunited with former Milton Keynes Dons boss Russel Martin, whom he made 25 loan appearances under last season. The defender, who recently turned 20, has secured a championship move as he follows Martin to Swansea City. Axel Tuanzebe recently secured a return to Villa Park as Dean Smith looked to bolster his squad following club-captain Jack Grealish departing for Manchester City in a record-breaking £100 million transfer.
